Chinese Language & Culture
Principles:
The school will be conducting concurrent education in both Chinese and English. We hope the bilingual education will: 1. help establish a good foundation in acquiring language skills, 2. enhance cultural levels of influence, 3. absorb benefits from Eastern and Western cultures, and 4. develop views of world peace. Therefore this class will be included as a main course and to be hosted five times a week; it will also be a prerequisite for all grades until senior graduation.
Course Design:
Due to differences between language backgrounds amongst students, they will be divided into groups of native and non-native speakers. Various levels of courses will be designed to fulfill students with confidence and enjoyment.
Course Materials:
Main source of the classes will base on the school’s own Chinese textbooks with other supplementary materials. Contents will include modern literatures, classical poetries and songs, daily vernaculars, conversations, Chinese cultures, and integrations of Confucianism and Taoism wisdoms, etc.
Lecture Methods:

Fundamentals: Pronunciations, enunciations, sentence structures, grammars, phase creations, sentence creations, short essays, calligraphies, listenings, conversations, and ability to recognize 500+ characters.

Intermediate: Classics recitals, memorizations, essays, daily cultures, newspapers reading, and ability to recognize 1000 to 2000 characters.

Expert: Fluent in Chinese, capable in making bilingual speeches in both Chinese and English, and impromptu translations from Chinese to English and vice versa.
Course Goals:
The courses will be designed to educate students on Chinese language skills through cultural materials, cultivate virtuous mannerisms, promote well-being of mankind, benefit society, and contribute to the world.
Chinese Classical Poetries & Songs
中國古典詩歌和歌曲
Principles: The goal is to pave the way for students entering the realm of Chinese poetries and songs. Students will be trained to recite and sing classical poems in order to further their moralities, to observe and sense all beings in the universe, and to developing feelings of care and admiration for the world around them.
Course Materials: “Children’s Classical Poetry Volumes 1 ~ 10” by Professor Chia-Ying Yeh 葉嘉瑩.

Course Goals: The purpose of the class is for students to understand the principles of the poems on a deeper level in order to learn the essence of lives.
